When you need a tow

A tow truck is the answer when a car cannot safely be driven: it will not start, has mechanical or tyre trouble, or has been left stuck. AST arranges the tow to your vehicle’s location and the move to the garage, home or address you choose.

Tell us about the vehicle first

Not every vehicle can be moved the same way. Low ground clearance, damage, or a drivetrain that will not turn all matter. We ask first so we can confirm whether, and how, we can move yours. If the vehicle stopped working on the road, see breakdown recovery.

What to tell us

  • Where the vehicle is. A WhatsApp location pin, or the nearest landmark.
  • The vehicle. Make, model and type (saloon, SUV, low car).
  • What happened. Won’t start, flat tyre, stuck or something else.
  • Access. Basement parking, tight spaces or soft ground change what is possible.
  • Where it needs to go. A garage or another address, if it must be moved.
  • Photos and a contact name. One of the vehicle and one of the surroundings help.

What affects the cost of towing

We do not list fixed prices because the same job can vary. The usual factors are:

  • Distance from the pick-up point to the destination.
  • The vehicle: size, ground clearance, damage and whether the wheels turn.
  • Access, such as basement parking or tight spaces.
  • Timing and how urgent the request is.
  • Recovery work needed before the tow, if the vehicle is stuck.

Can you tow any type of car?
It depends on the vehicle and where it is. Give us the make and model and any damage or low clearance, and we will tell you whether we can move it.
Do I need to be with the car?
It helps to have someone with the vehicle and reachable by phone. If that is not possible, tell us and we can talk it through.
Can you tow from a car park or basement?
Access height and space decide it, so tell us the car park details when you contact us.
Can you take the car to my garage?
Tell us the destination when you contact us and we will confirm the arrangements.
